Golf Tourney Nearing End

AMATEURS’ SECOND ROUND PROFESSIONAL SEMI-FINAL (Special to THE SUNJ HAMILTON, To-day. There were no further surprises today in the golf championship meeting, when the second round of the amateur championship and the semi-final of th€> professional championship were played. The results of to-day’s play were as follows— AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP X. C. Bell beat Donald Grant, 4 and G. F. Colbeck beat W. S. Ralph, 10 and 9. M. H. Duncan beat Rana Wagg, 1 up. T. H. Horton beat J. Goss, 1 up. Sloan Morpeth beat H. W. Tidmarsh, 9 and 8. Philip Grey beat R. M. George, 2 and 1. A. D. S. Duncan beat H. B. Lusk, 1 up. A. G. Sime beat J. L. Black, 7 and 6. PROFESSIONAL SEMI-FINAL J. 3D. Mclntosh beat E. J. Moss, 3 and 2. R. C. Butters beat J. R. Galloway, 7 and 6. S. Crimp, a Hamilton player, tied with 75 for second place and will play off to-morrow. There will be no charge, as originally intended, for the public to witness the finals of the amateur and professional championships on Friday and Saturday respectively. HORTON PLAYS WELL AMATEURS ON HEAVY COURSE RESULTS OF MORNING ROUND To-day’s play in the golf championship at Hamilton saw overcast conditions with the course heavier. The results of the first 38 holes of the third round of the amateur championship as follow: Horton, 4 up on Morgan Duncan. Bell, 3 up on Colbeck. Sime, 1 up on Arthur Duncan. Morpeth, 8 up on P. Gr€:y. Horton did not commit any errors

of judgment in his estimation of Morgan Duncan and started ? way 343534, and was then four up. Tie holed his third with a mashie from 20yds away at the 9th and turned for home five up. On the way back he made three or four mistakes on the putting greens and Duncan finished a stroke better on the second half, being four down at lunch time —a fine fight in view of Horton’s gong round in 73. Sime and A Duncan played a hole and hole match all the way. first one and then the other having the advantage. They were all square at the turn, and Sime managed to get one up at the last hole. Sime was playing the better game, but Duncan was managing to keep with him. Bell and Colbeck were both out in 41, with a not very bright exhibition of golf. Bell played the better coming home, and after successfully negotiating a stymie at: the 12th finished with seven fours and two fives. He was three up on the morning round. Morpeth gave a brilliant exhibition playing par golf all the way, and outdriving Grey through the whole of the match. He was out in 36 and back in approximately two under fours in the finish of the morning round. S up.
