Fancy Dress Dance

THE DUNEDIN CLUB IN MERRY MOOD

With their mothers and their cousins and their sisters and their aunts and a host of other friends, the members of the Dunedin Club thronged to the social and fancy dress dance held last evening in the club rooms. The ballroom was made brilliant with a maze of paper streamers and softly glowing lights, and here an alluring selection of dance music was provided by a liltingly jazzy orchestra. In the card room flag bridge was played, the winners for the evening being Air. and Airs. Lowry and Air. Martin. Airs. K. Raymond acted as hostess for the evening, and her "Powder and Patches” characterisation was charmingly carried out. She wore a frock of black sequins with a hint of rose du Barri toning, and an inset vest of accordion-pleated rose georgette. Her hair was arranged with coyly demure curls falling at either side. In the unavoidable absence of Air. E. C. Cutten, the chair was taken by Dr.| Hastings, and he assisted Airs. Raymond in the judging of the fancy dresses. The prizes went to Airs. N. D. Carter, as a “Jazz Imp,” for the best lady’s dress, while the best gentleman’s dress was decided to be that of Air. De Alarr, “A Russian Court Dancer.” The most original couple were Aliss Bachelor and Mr. Smith, as China and Holland, while for the best character costume the prizes went to Airs.
