Auckland Gas Dividend—Directors of the Auckland Gas Co., Ltd., announce an interim dividend at the rate of S per cent, per annum, payable on .July 28, for the half-year ended June Dalgety Directorate Movements. The New Zealand superintendent of Dalgety and Company, Limited, lxaa received cabled advice from the head office in London that Mr. A. K. Graham, director of the Hudson Bay Company, has joined the London board of directors. Competition Affecting English Glass Industry. —The glass industry of South Yorkshire is reported to be feeling acutely foreign competition. There £s, as usual, a very big business in the home market in beer bottles and jars, but in the better qualities of glassware . it is difficult to secure contracts because the pi'ice of the foreign glassware is little more than the wages paid in South Yorkshire for the manufacture of similar articles. Improving British Trade.—Figures for British trade during May show that a substantial improvement took place during the month in exports and also in re-exports of imported merchandise. An increase of £17,511,903 is shown in exports as compared with May last year, while the figures are £10,665,527 above those for April. Re-exports are £4,817,950 higher than last year and show an increase of £ 536,504 compared with April. Among the chief increases in exports were coal, which improved by over £ 3,000,000, iron and steel manufactures and cotton goods by more than £2,000,000 in each case, and silk and rubber.
