A CORREGGIO PICTURE
GIFT TO GALLERY By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Tuesday. Sir Joseph Duveen offered the National Gallery the choice of any picture in the Benson collection. The gallery selected Correggio’s charming early work, “Christ Taking Leave of His Mother.” —A. and N.Z. A cablegram sent from London on July 11 read: Mr. Robert Henry Benson, who is senior partner in the city banking firm of Robert Benson and Company, and one of the trustees of the National Gallery, and a well-known art collector, has sold his famous collection of Italian pictures to Sir Joseph Duveen for £500,000. The collection includes notable examples of the work of Duccio Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, Titian, Carpaccio, Andrea del Sarto, Luinl nnd Giovanni Bellini.
