BANKRUPTCY ACT
SECRECY CONDEMNED FULL PUBLICITY URGED (From Our Own Cori'espondent.) GISBORNE, To-day. Strong comment at the provisions of the Bankruptcy Amendment Bill introduced this session was expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, particular objection being taken to the proposal that the assignee should have discretionary power to prohilaH the publication of proceedings. The president, Mr. H. F. Forster, said the publication of bankruptcy reports was of great benefit to the commercial community, and the suppression of reports would lead to great abuse. Other speakers concurred with this view, holding that the secrecy would encourage bankruptcy, while in cases of genuine hardship the assignee, while thinking he was acting kindly, might deprive the bankrupt of deserving sympathy.
