CORRESPONDENCE.

we aro always willing to give insertion to letters of explanation or interest, but wo wish it to bo distinctly understood that, wo do not endorse the opinions expressed, or language used, by our correspondents. Our ideas of passing events will be found in our local or editorial columns.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE SAMOA TIMIS.

Sir, —Arc the far-fetched sarcasms, borrowed phrases, and expressions by “ Lex " a refutation of my letter of July 27 ? If so I fail to see where. Surely, having had five days to recuperate in after the departure of the Stormbird, “ Lex ’’ might have concentrated his limited ideas, and given us something better than the above mentioned mixture. Ho winds up with a great effusion of eloquence, borrowed of course from some of the Americanisms, or American stump orators. What a pity he cannot sing as well as he plays, what a great man he might become. "Lex" can quote Shakespeare and borrow all the gilded expressions in the vocabulary in vain; his superior's act is beyond bis puny arm. Let us hope that as “ Lex " is fast fading away —the best half of him gone already—ln will again lapse into that blessed state of nonentity ho has heretofore enjoyed. Wo used to sympathise with "Los” when he first arrived in Si”nou; wo called him the “ Bibe in the Words." Now we do not know what to call him os the " Woods " have run away leaving half the “ Babe " behind. " Lex," take my advice, and slick to Chitty and Wheaton, and not run after strange faces. I am, yours. &c., Juktio:.
