Music Hath Charms: But Not In Samoa.

During the celebration in connection with the opening of the Roman Catholic Church at Falefa Upolu at 6 p.m. yesterday, after a singing competition between Siumu Nofoalii and Falefa villages, a dispute arose over the decision. An affray occurred when stones were freely used, resulting in five male Samoans being injured, one of them, Aso, an orator of Nofaalii, dying in the Apia hospital eight hours later as the result of injuries. The affray was witnessed by Bishop Darnard, visiting priests and a large gathering of Samoans from all parts of the territory. The police have the matter in hand and criminal charges will follow.
