RULING RATES HELD

Wellington Woo! Sale Report CROSSBRED IN DEMAND Press Association.— -no^yfieht. Wellington, December 9. Prices at the wool sale on Satur- ( day were at ruling rates. As the sale proceeded it was evident that the market was fully maintained at the Napier level, competition being exceptionally strong all through for really good fine crossbred hogget wool, and prices for this were generally in sellers' favour. Bradford and Japan were the principal operators, and France was an eager buyer at current rates of really good lines of skirtings and pieces. Germany appeared to be out of the market, Canadian interest in good to medium crossbreds being sustained throughout. Hillesden (Marlborough) Merinos brought Ufd to 12d. Fine halfbreds and comebacks made up to 12d, and fine halfbred bellies and pieces up to 9.]d. Medium style halfbred made 9kl to IOJd, and lower grades BJd to 9d. Following is the official range of

WOOL IN LONDON | OPENING SALES SATISFACTORY Press Association—Copyright i London, Dec. 8. Wool sales are progressing satisfactor- i ily, the opening decline having largely j recovered. German Competition has not j been so active as was desired, but according to the Economist it is known that 1 some operations have been conducted on ] her account. • An encouraging feature has been the j activity displayed by France, while the I operations of other European countries j have been satisfactory. j There has been active buying of both j Merinos and crossbreds by the home trade, and it would not be surprising if | the takings by this section were the ! heaviest of any this year. This is proof ! that trade in the consuming centres is \ good and consumption large. There is j doubt stocks among the top-makers, spinners and manufacturers are light for ' the time of year, and the activity of the machinery has compelled topmakers in particular to be large buyers.
