LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited report as under: — ■ Pat Sheep: Fat ewes are now selling at round about 15/, a decrease 'upon last week of roughly 2/ per head. Supplies are now becoming much more plentiful and will, continue to do so as lambs are drafted and farmer* cull their flocks. .Wethers are slow of sale, and also are not very plentiful, but butchers seem to prefer the ewe and hogget 'mutton. Hoggctf; arc in short supply, and have not declined in price to any noticeab 1 * extent.
Fat Cattle: Good prime Polled A'neiis or Hereford 1 beef is not greatly sought after, and we have recently '•eon'.the ano'mWy of fat ciows ex the dairies realising more than the true beef cattle. A considerable number of dairy farmers' cows are now coming forward to the sales and, as stated above, are selling really well. Store Sheep: All classes of store cheep, pre selling well atfi late rates, j Therei is L a very strong demand for . 2 tooth wethers, either shorn or in the wool, and from all appearances these >re in short supply. Breeding ewes are hiing quoted 1 in- fair numbers for forward .delivery, but there j is not much bu'siness passing, buyj ers' ideas of values,, in most cases, I being, a little less .than , Vendors' quotes... Several large lines of both Down'.and- Romney cross lambs, have I been sold- for forward delivery, at prices- that, certainly .look tempting to vendors; . - i ■<■■.■-. > i ■■ ; j Store Gattle: Prices for all classes of store- cattle have declined in sympathy J with beef prices, and also ow trig to'most graziers having filled up. The demand has principally Been-lor cattle \to eat summer grass, which is .now very plentiful, . .. . . Yearling heifers: Very little business is being transacted in this section, and the buying season can be. looked upon as almost closed. Dairy, Cows and Heifers: Very Hfc-Y, tle ; interest is'.being- taken in this de paTtmcut now* although occasional sales are made a t fair prices for outstanding animals. Yard sales are just about finished. . .- Pigs- The yardings of .these are beginning; to diminish, and prices generally have shown a downward tendency, although there is- still a good : demand' for.all clashes., At Hawera on Thursday a moderate yarding of stock and a fair sale resulted. Entries in all departments were smaller than last sale, but competition, wag. fair, and practically everything was sold-. Weancr pigs made .to 19/, stores to 30/, light porkers to 38/, fat ewes 13/6 to 15/, fat cows ex daises £3 to £4, store cows £-2 to' £2' 10/,' djairy heifers to £4 10/. - ', -.\ ■
