SEVENTH BIRTHDAY

| Stratford Branch of W.D.F.U. I Celebrates i ' | - I HAPPY FUNCTION i The seventh birthday of the Strut ford branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was celebrated on Tuesday in the Foresters' Hall. All branches in Central Taranaki W'-re represented and over 150 ladies took part. The long rows of tables were prettily decorated with the dij vision colours, red, green, blue and J yellow. On the wall hung a portrait of one of the founders of the Women's Division, Mrs W. J. Poison. The cake, for which, all members contributed ingredients.. was made and decorated by, the president. Mrs M.'.G. Trotter presided, and proceedings opened with the National Anthem and .the Creed, after which all stood in silence for two minutes to show their sympathy towards a fellow member, Mrs G. Dick, who has recently suffered a bereavement in her family. Apologies were received from Mesdames J. W. McMillan, W. J. Pol son, Dimes, Wickham, McCutcheon, Kay, and Laird. A welcome was extended to all f hosc present by the president and .good wishes for the branch were also expressed by Mes dames R. Masters (Stratford), Brunton (Cardiff), Belcher (Pembroke Rd) Ayers (Matau), Piper (Lowgarth), Lees (Toko), Maunsell (Huinga), Cocker (Eltham), Dill (Midhirst), Metcalfe (Pohokura), Williams (Huiroa), Hucker (Ra.tapiko), Harris (Pukengahu). Afternoon tea was dispensed by the committee and the birthday cake cut by Mrs W. H. Young, one of the first members of the Stratford branch. The lucky seat competition was won by Mesdames Stokes, Brunton, and Dili jnr. The prize for .the song naming competition went to Mrs Hucker. The musical programme consisted of songs by Mesdames Clark, Stokes, Cranton and Lamplough, recitations, by* Miss Ruth Oliver, and dancing by the Misses Ross. The accompaniments were played by Mrs G. Strack. ,
