Gre,at Britain, in France it j was rising to almost .prohibitive prices, tho Parliamentary Secretary 10 j the Board of Agriculture, Earl de ia i Warr, told the House of Lords. | He defended the British plan of a | Milk Marketing Board and claimed that it had safeguarded the producer without forcing prices up. Other countries, he said, had tried the experiment of forcing prices up, j by quotas and tariffs, with the result j that, while the price of baiter in i England was 75/ per cwt, it was .181/ 1 in Berlin and 278/ in Paris, j This, he added, might make pro- { flucers; mouths water, but, within the I last four years, Britain's butter conj sumption had been increased by 40 j per cent, and butter was such 'a j luxury in Prance that it had largely gone out of use. The Milk Board was a colossal ex periment, conducted with great ability and business acumen.
