A BIG QUESTION

o County Revaluation STRATFORD COUNCIL FAVOURS PRO RATA SYSTEM

A revaluation cf all farm fends in the Stratford County was applied for in a communication from the Stratford sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union in a communication received at the monthly meeting of the Stratford County Council today. "It is considered that the heavy fall in land values requires some adjustment in regard to valuations for rating and taxation purposes," stated the communication.

The chairman (Mr. T. R. Ander son): This is opening up a big ques tion.

Gr T. T. Murray said that the solution seemed to be a writing-off of 25 per cent, to 30 per cent, of rates. Farmers could secure the removal of anomalies by application to the Assessment Court.

On the motion of Cr. Pitt, the Council decided to reply to the Union, pointing out that a revaluation would be expensive and that in view of pending legislation the Council was not prepared to take any definite move at present, although favouring a pro rata reduction.
