BOARD OF GOVERNORS

STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL At (lie monthly meeting of members of the Board of Governors of the Stratford Technical High School last night, the following were present: —Messrs. H. Trimble- (chairman), A. Ferguson, J. McAllister, E. H. Fason, F. Gawith, C. Moore, E. S. Rutherfurd, Mrs. J. W. McMillan, and the principal (Mr. A. H. R. Amess). Apologies were tendered for the absence of Mr. W. .1. Poison, M.P.,and Messrs. D. Shaw .and J. Young. The Principal said a Gazette notice had appeared stating that no technical school board was allowed to spend any money on the conveyance of children to the school. He had written to Wellington on the subject, stating that arrangements had been entered into already, and requesting a reply, but it had not come to hand in time for the meeting. The Supervisor of Manual Training, Education Board, asked if the Technical High School Board was prepared to pay one-fifth of the cost of the upkeep of the cooking room aiidl woodwork room in the manual building. It was stated that the school pupils used it for two days and the primary school for three days a week. The principal said the matter had been discussed some time ago, and it was agreed to pay their share. The total cost for the year 1930 was £SB 8s Id, one-fifth of which was the board's share. The account was passed for payment. The Principal's Report The Principal (Mr. A. H. R. Ameßs) presented the following report for the month of May:—The school resumed after the holidays on Monday, May 25, when the roll was as follows: General Course.—First year: Girls 8, boys 18; total 26. Second year: Girls 9, boys 12; total 21. Third year: Girls 11, boys 35; total 46. Grand total: 93. Science Course.—First year: Girls 11, boys 24; total 35. Second year: Girls 14, boys 21; total 35. Third year: Girls 6, boys 23; total 29. Grand total: 99. Commercial Course.—First year: Girls 18, bovs 1; total 19. Second vear: Girls 19, boys 2; total 21. Third year: Girls 15. Grand total: 55. Trades and Domestic—First year.: Girls 12, boys 20;. total 32. Second -year: Boys 18. Grand total 50. Total for all courses: 297. W r ith the exception of three wet days, the attendance has been good, and the health of the pupils excellent. Mr. Saunders has resumed duty after leave of absence extending over seven weeks. Accounts amounting to £44 were passed for payment.
