Mr. S. Pitt left by the mail train lhis morning on a visit to Auckland. The Hon. R. Masters is in Stratford for the week-end. Appreciation of the work done by Mr. W. J. Rogers during In's term of lour years as Mayor of Wanganui, was expressed at a meeting- of his friends and supporters held there last, night. On their behalf Mr. J. Robertson handed a comfortably filled wallet to Mr. Rogers. The evening took the form of a concert and dance, the Lyric Hall being packed. The Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, arrived in Palmerston North yesterday by the Napier express and proceeded to Kiwitea to inspect, a property of 395 acres which has been offered for group settlement. Mr. Ransom is inquiring into general settlement questions and is making a presessional tour of his electorate. He will return to Wellington, via Wairarapa, on Wednesday.
