YOUNG AWARDED FIELDING HONORS.
The selector of the best fielder In the Stratford Club (Mr Campbell Jackson) states that he had consid; erable difficulty in coming to a decision, as there were several players who showed really excellent form in this department. Especially has this the case in the last three matches, and those in the running were Mackintosh, Young, C. Massey, E, Cole, and A. Beale. The latter two proved themselves to be splendid slip fiddlers, never missing a,chance throughout the season. Massey at nidwicket fielded very well. Young was extremely alert, and anticipated the batsmen’s strokes In a pleasing manner. All things considered, Mr Jackson has decided to award the honors to Young, who is to be congratulated, as the winning of the Shield was due to the excellent fielding of the team as a whole, ably assisted by Cole’s deadly bowling, which was responsible for over eighty wickets during the season at a very small cost per . wicket.
