FORTS BOMBARDED IN THE DAR-
DANELLES.

The Allied fleet bombarded Erior forts, in* the Dardanelles, on Saturday. MINE-SWEEPINC IN THE NORTH SEA. (Received 8.5 a.m.) London, December 21. Sailing between Hull and Copenhagen has been suspended owing to the mines sown on the East Coast by the. raiding .German squadron. The Admiralty continues the mine sweeping, and announces that voyages are comparatively safe between Flamborough and Newcastle daily.
MURDER OF NON-COMBATANTS. SCIENTIFIC BARBARISM AND CIVILISATION. . Times and Sydney Sun Sebviom. (Received 8 a.m.) London, December 21. A New York correspondent, writing of the naval raid on the undefended Yorkshire coast, and the enthusiasm over the murder of non-combatants, which was evoked in Berlin, says they haven't assisted the German cause in America. On the contrary,'they have deepened the conviction that a victory to the Kaiser will be the victory of scientific barbarism over civilisation. SHORT-DISTANCE RAIDS. Tdiii and Sydney Sun Sbbviom. (Received 8 a.m.) London, December 21. The Times' naval correspondent stresses the difficulty of combatting raids over short distances such as could bo made by. a battle cruiser of the highest speed. The squadron is f'O constituted that it might remain at sea (or some time longer. It is uncertain whether the German squadron is still in the North Sea. It might contrive to evade the British battle-cruisers, and favored by thick weather, it may attempt more damage before it returns to port.
