Fov several days, some carpet-beat-ers were terrified by shots from a rifle, the bullets penetrating the carpets. . Police were posted in the surrounding buildings, but the rifle cracked ;\s usual.* The police discovered that an old musician complained that lie had been, wakened every morning by the noise of the beaters. The Magistrate sympathised with the defendant and dismissed the case.
