The Germans and native labourers repulsed the attackers. The “Kolnische Zeitnng”- alleges that the attack was the result of French, intrigue. , i ; Paius, September -22. A gold scare ; prevails pwing to the banks refusing. to pay more than 10 per cent in gold. ~ Some private banks are allowing three francs per .thousand for gold payments which c»;e sent io Germany. ” The increased bank rate is partially due to the increased circulation of' paper money, which has almost reached the legal limit.
