JERSEY BREEDERS’ ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING OF STRATFORD BRANCH. The annual meeting ol the Stratford branch of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders’ Association was hold in the A .and P. Association’s rooms on Saturday, some fifteen members being present. The balance-sheet presented showed a credit balance on the year’s Avorking. The annual report stated that during the twelve months the branch had been in existence four meetings had been held, each meeting being Avell attended by members. The membership had been doubled during the year. There Avere uoav tAvcnty members and every prospect of there being thirty before next annual meeting. At the recent election of members of the executive council at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association held at Auckland in July last, the Stratford branch nominated Mr W. B. Harkness, Tariki, and the report expressed pleasure that he had been elected. Messrs Harkness and Watkins had been deputed to represent the branch at the annual mooting at Auckland, and thanks Avere duo to these gentlemen, Avho, at considerable inconvenience to themselves, gave their time and services in the interests of the association. It Avas pleasant to note, said the report, that the price of Jerseys was still being avoll maintained, Avith every prospect of high prices in the future, especially for animals of knoAvn .ability for butter-fat production. During the year there had been imported from Jersey several animals from the best families in the island, almost all of Avhich came to Taranaki. It is anticipated that during the coming season tho importations Avill be more than doubled as negotiations arc uoav proceeding for the importation of about tAvcnty head—mostly females. In conclusion the committee impresses on members the necessity for testing every animal for its entry in the Register of Merit. Tho report and balance-sheet Avere adopted. A hearty vote of thanks Avas passed to Mr R. B. Mglloav for his services as chairman during the past year. Tho folloAving committee Avere elected for the ensuing year: Messrs vnyly, Belcher,"-Healy, SayAvell and Harlcness. Mr Harkness Avas elected chairman of the committee and Mr Healy Avas elected • secretary and treasurer. The folloAving resolution Avas passed on the motion of Mr Bayly, seconded by Mr Vickers: “That the executive ho Avritton ■ to re altering-Rule 4 to read that ..branding shall,/inly apply to registrations or transfers entered in the Herd .Book last.” .., . biOfcOn the,,.motion of My,, Harkness, seconded by Mr Petersen it Avas decided to donate ton guineas to the Stratford A, and P,., Association as a prize in the class for pedigree Jersey bull and three of its progeny, to he shoAvn in milk. , .■ It was decided that ,tj)e j secretary should procure a complete copy of the Herd| B,ook for the members. ; -
