(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —The correspondence in your paper has been, at any rate ,amusing. All the anonymous letters calling on the Mayor to publish the report have evidently been inspired by our local Aaisor, and although nothing is said directly the inference to.be taken is boat the Mayor is keeping back the correspondence or agreement for some fell purpose of his own. If an agreement has been come to between the Council and the Company, what earthly purpose can be served by its publication if the Mayor considers it advisable not to publish? I trust he will not jield to the agitation, which ia engineered by one little man. We nave been given to understand that the price for goodwill is something between £5000," the original offer of the Company, and £2500, the original offer of the Council. Even assuming that the £SOOO was‘given, I think the 'Council has made a good bargain for -ho ratepayers. There is some doubt ■ s to the right of the Company to continue operations after the date men- ■ timed m their deed of concession, l ucre are probably legal opinions on ■ vnth _ sides. What would - happen if the Company had the right to concinno in perpetuity? It seems to me their goodwill would bo nearer £20,000 than £SOOO. Those persons who are opposing the present purchase, may Ipad ns into the same moss in which the Hamilton Borough Council found itself.—l am, etc., ems:
