THE ALEXA.
CLAIM FOR SALVAGE, (Per Press Association.) Wanganui, June 27. His Honour Mr. Justice Sim to-day delivered judgment in the ease of a claim by the Wanganui Freezing Company against A. Hatrick and Jas. White, owners of the barquentine Alcxa. Plaintiffs aro owners of the lighter Thistle, and claimed £250 for services rendered in the salvage of the burqucntinc. Tho Alcxa ran aground on South Spit on December 12, 1910. The Thistle and the Harbour Board’s tug Togo assisted in getting the vessel off and in keeping her from bumping into oho breakwater. The defendant contended that it was the Aloxa’s own gear which pulled ‘.lie vessel off, hut his Honour considei ?J Unit, the services rendered, if only in keeping the vessel clear of the mole; Were of |sbino value in salving operations. On consideration of the value of the vessel ho thought £250 was a rvir/mable sum for the..services of the Thistle and Togo, treating £75 of tins as having been earned by tiie Togo. That left £175 as the sum to bo paid for tiro services of tho Thistle Costs were against defendant.
