UNEMPLOYMENT.

(Per Press Association.) Gisborne, Juno 27. A rather unsatisfactory position has arisen in regard to the employment of labourers on Government works in and around Gisborne recently, with the result that there are a number of unemployed about the town. It is stated that the Labour Department at Wellinigton is sending 'up .men for railway works almost every week, aiid the authorities here are unable to give them work. Consequently the men pay their fares from Wellington to -Gisborne'with a promise of the Welliiugtoh Labour Department that they will he taken on at- the railway works. When they arrive at Ofcako (the terminus) their services are not required. There are now, it is reported, about a dozen men in Gisborne who have been sent hero by tlio Labour Department, but work cannot he' found for them.
