EXCAVATIONS IN JERUSALEM.

EXTRAORDINARY OBJECT OF EXPEDITION. A SECRET QUEST. MANUSCRIPT PROVING THE RESURRECTION. London, May 7. Router’s representative lias had an in ten iew u itli an English archelolgist, wno attended the earlier excavation work of the British expedition which has been conducting a quest in Jerusalem based on tno existence of a certain cypher which was supposed to indicate tno exact position oi a quantity of treasure buried by the ancient Jewish Kings. The operations were conducted in a thoroughly scientific manner with up-to-date machinery, and the engineering details were under the supervision of an engineer who had gained his experience in the construction of tire London tube railways. The work was conducted in a most secret manner, with special labourers, and much was done under cover of night. The excavations started in an aqueduct leading from the Pool of Siloam underneath Mount Moriah, which is’crowned by the Mosque of Omar, and which is honey-combed with rock-cut tombs and chambers and subterranean passages leading down to the acqueduct. The members of the, expedition believed thaQ if they could explore thoroughly this labyrinth of rock passages they 'would make many interesting and valuable finds of manuscripts and treasures. It was not at all improbable that .in the. times of the Jewish, Kings money and sacred treasures, such as the small golden doors of the temple, the golden vessels and the golden implements and utensils used in connection; wit>i the Jewish ritual were hidden there. . ■ , ■ ’ . • . The members of the expedition were not communicative as to what they liopqd tO discover, but they declared that they expected to find a manuscript which would set at rest all doubts as to the Resurrection of Christ. :
