DAYLIGHT SAVING.
THE MOVEMENT IN ENGLAND. Mi Winston Churchill was the principal speaker at a u.oei lag held at the Guildhall, London, last month in .support of the Daylight Saving r-T* lo Hord Mayor presided, and Mr \\ illett, the author ol the scheme, had an enthusiastic reception from a large gathering, mostly of city men,' who unanimously supported the Bill, and asked that the Government siiould give facilities tor its passing into law. Mr Churchill moved the resolution in favour of the Bill, and pointed out that -is amicplo' had ocen supported by 170 city, corporations and town councils, -1(1 chambers of commerce, 53 trade unions, some hundreds of associations, and by 265 members of Parliament. He 'urged that the scheme, by merely setting our clocks forward an hour in April and hack again in September, would nocure 151 hours’ more daylight to the people of England, and that to the majority ..the hours would bo hours of daylight leisure. If .the change were not found beneficial the experiment need not lie repeated, hut he was confident that advantages of a most substantial kind would be secured in almost -every sphere and .aspect of national life.
