A PRIEST ON EMPIRE DAY.
At a largely attended meeting of parents and citizens at Mullnmhimby (N.S.W.) last week, to arrange for tlie celebration of Empire Day, the correspondence included a letter from the Rev. Father Sullivan, which read: —“Catholic Presbytery, Bungalow, May G, 1911.—Deal Mr. Matthews,— 1 received your note. I regret that the parents and citizens of Mullumnimby think mo as childish as themselves in expecting me to join with thorn in wishing success to the Ernoiro. 1 have never been asked until the present, and never intend taking oart in those loud manifestations of loyalty and success.—Faithful I\ yours. IV. Sullivan.” Alderman Hollangworth said it was ■in insult to tiro ncoplo of the town, and Cymmonwealth, and the British Snip■. Ho moved that the letter lie • handed to the press. This was seconded hy Mr. Lavcrty. The Chairman explained that the letter was in reply to an invitation t? give the children a patriotic address. Other rw.eakers endorsed the remarks, and thought something stronger should' lie done. The motion was carried unanimous-
