TRAMS RUNNING IN NAGASAKI

U.S. Airman Sees Effect Of

Atomic Bomb

NEW YORK, August 27.

Trams are running in Nagasaki although part of the city was flattened by the atomic bomb, according to Lieuten-ant-Colonel Tice, who landed on Kyushu on Friday. Lieutenant-Colonel Tice told the correspondent on Okinawa of tlxe Associated Press that he flew over Nagasaki at 1500 feet. It looked like any other bombed city. He flew over another city looking just as bad and saw cities in France equally damaged. Nagasaki had one area bare even of rubble—probably where the main blast was felt—but the other portion of the city was protected by a high ridge. He could see trams operating, school buildings standing and people moving in the streets.
