MR CHURCHILL HAD NARROW ESCAPE

Bomb Exploded In Downing Street LONDON, May 9. It can now be revealed that Mr Churchill had a narrow escape in an air raid on October 14, 1940, when a bomb exploded within a few yards of 10 Downing Street, shattering many windows in the Treasury nearby. The bomb dropped on a grass-cov-ered enclosure between his home and the Treasury while the Prime Minister was at dinner. The soft earth partly smothered the force of the explosion. Mr Churchill immediately went out and examined the damage.
