SERVICE STATION DESTROYED

OUTBREAK OF FIRE AT GORE A fire which broke out in a service station at Gore owned by Mr H. G. Wallis early yesterday morning caused damage amounting to about £2OO to i the plant. The alarm was given about 6.30 a.m. by a passer-by, but, fanned by a strong east wind, the flames had obtained a strong hold when the Fire Brigade arrived. However, once the brigade had a lead of water playing on the blaze the flames were soon extinguished. The stock contained a number of new and second-hafid tyres for collection by buyers who had obtained permits. These were all destroyed, but the tanks, which were automatically sealed off, were not affected, although damage was done to the pumps. "The owner is deputy-superintendent of the Fire Brigade.
