NEW METHOD OF BLOOD TRANSFUSION
MELBOURNE, May 9. An invention of Di' Julian Smith, a well-known Melbourne doctor, enabling blood transfusions to be given at a much faster rate than is possible by the ordinary drip method, has saved a number of Australian lives on Tarakan. Normally, the transfusion of one 1000 c.cs. of blood—about a pint and a-half—may take from three-quarters of an hour to an hour and a-half, depending on the condition of the wounded man.
