Notes for Women

Miss Esther Riddle, Christchurch, is visiting Invercargill. Miss Gwennyth Thomson, Dalrymple street, has returned from Wellington. Mr and Mrs G. Burt, Glenorchy, who have been visiting Invercargill, will return north tomorrow. Mrs G. J. Mulvey, and her two children, have returned to Wellington after a visit to Mrs D. Mulvey, Tweed street. Miss Peggy Oliver, of the W.R.N.S., has returned north after spending leave with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. A. H. Oliver, Holywood Terrace. Mr and Mrs Thomas McMullin, Waipahi, entertained recently for the twenty-first birthday of their daughter, Miss Inez McMullin. Mrs A. Brown and Messrs Colin Weir, N. Favel, J. Richards, D. O’Neill and John Gray extended their congratulations to the guest of honour. Songs were sung by Messrs Weir. O'Neill, Favel, and Richards. Mrs J. Nicol, Bluff, was entertained at morning tea in Smith’s tearooms by members of the executive of the Southern Southland Federation of Women’s Institutes. The president, Mrs J. W. Martin, Riverton, spoke of the work Mrs Nicol had done for the institutes as a past secretary and member of the executive. It was as a result of her efforts that the Bluff branch was formed, stated Mrs Martin. A shoulder spray and a copy of "Pioneer Tales” were presented to Mrs Nicol, who leaves soon to live at Bunnythorpe, where she will be a member of the local institute.
