NATIONAL SAVlNGS.—Fourteen new National War Savings accounts were opened in Southland last week, making a total of 23,678. In addition, 19 of the 23 towns reached their weekly quotas, some by using portions of surpluses in hand. The successful places were: Invercargill, Arrowtown, Balfour, Bluff, Edendale, Gore, Lumsden, Nightcaps, Ohai, Orepuki, Otautau, Queenstown, Riverton, Thornbury. Tuatapere, Waikaia, Waikaka, Winton and Wyndham. The amount Invested in the district was £2349 and the balance to reach the district quota of £3llO was taken from the surplus in hand. This gave Southland its 87th consecutive weekly success. The amount raised since April 1 last, excluding the extra amounts received during the Victory Loan, is £142,745, leaving £18.975 required to reach the district’s annual quota of £161,720 by March 31. 1
