CANADIAN CONSCRIPTS FOR OVERSEAS

Prime Minister To Ask For Confidence Motion (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, Nov. 26. While new anti-conscription demonstrations by home defence troops were reported tonight, says the Canadian Press, experienced members of Parliament expressed the view if Colonel J. L. Ralston voted against the Government enough members would follow him that, even if the Ministry is not defeated, the margin will be so small that the Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, will seriously consider resigning. The debate will open tomorrow when Mr Mackenzie King will move a confidence motion and will state the Cabinet’s policy now that authority has been taken to send 16,000 draftees overseas. The Ottawa correspondent of The New York Times says that if Mr Mackenzie King makes an aggressive speech similar to that which won the applause of the Liberal caucus on Wednesday, it is believed he will rally sufficient of a majority in the House of Commons to enable him to carry through until the spring and also to prevent a split between the Liberals in Quebec and the Liberals throughout Canada.
