The amont in hand for Southland’s quota of the patriotic fund for the year ended September 30 is now £56,400. This figure is not final, as a number of returns from country districts are still to come In. AMERICAN PRAISE.— The interest of the United States in Australia and New Zealand as a result of the war developments of the last few months is indicated by a special Anzac number of the American Exporter, a monthly publication devoted to the manufacturing industry and export trade of the United States. The issue deals largely with the parts New Zealand and Australia are playing in the war, and an article on the Dominion’s war effort highly praises thie progress made, the number of men serving in the armed forces, the gallant exploits of soldiers, seamen and airmen in the field and the expanded factory and primary production. The article concludes: “Both Australia and New Zealand will continue on the road they have chosen. There will be no relaxation of effort, no slackening of the will until the war is won.”
