Sister Norton, of the Caimsmore hospital, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs J. A. Edwards and Miss Imlah Edwards, Otikerama, were visitors to town yesterday. Miss Molly Hamilton, Don street, has returned from a visit to Mr and Mrs G. C. Hamilton, Gore. Mrs D. Maxwell, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs J. McQueen, Dalrymple street, will leave early in the week for Whangarei. Mrs F. E. Shrimpton, Dunedin, and Mrs M. Norden, New Plymouth, are the guests of Dr C. C. Anderson and Mrs Anderson, Don street. At the twenty-first birthday party of the Southland Women’s Club held last night bouquets were presented by Mrs J. G. Macdonald to Mesdames J. D. Gilmore, R. J. Gilmour, Ritchie Crawford and Misses Grace Basstian and C. McLeod. SOUTHLAND WOMEN’S CLUB Successful Birthday Party Splendid organization by the executive and members of the Southland Women’s Club made the club’s twenty-first birthday party last night the most successful function of the season. The party took the form of a dinner and the 130 members present spent a happy time. The guests were welcomed by the president, Mrs J. D. Gilmore, who extended a special welcome to the Mayoress, Mrs A. Wachner, Miss Jean Burt (Otago Women’s Club), Mrs R. W. McCreath (president of the Gore Women’s Club) and Mrs D. H. Thomson (North Otago Women’s Club). Mrs Gilmore in a brief address traced the development of the club, which had been established on September 16, 1921. To the first president, the late Mrs W. T. Hazlett, and the first vice-presidents, Mesdames R. J. Gilmour, T. L. Miller and J. A. Hanan, the club owed a tremendous amount. They had all helped to make the club the sound organization it was today. The following toast list was honoured: “The President” (Mrs T. F. Gilkison—Mrs J. D. Gilmore); "Past Presidents” (Mrs Gilmore—Mrs R. J. Gilmour); “Foundation Members” (Mrs H. Mathew—Mrs Ritchie Crawford): “The Club’s Circles” (Mrs Stanley Brown—Mrs W. J. Jones, Mrs J. N. Armour, Miss 0. Rein, Mrs Ritchie Crawford, Mrs E. K. Mills and Mrs J. G. Macdonald); "Sister Clubs” (Mrs T. F. Gilkison—Miss Jean Burt, Mrs R. W. McCreath and Mrs D. H. Thomson); "Toast Mistress" (Miss M. Tring Crofts—Miss Grace Basstian). Enjoyable items were given by the following: Songs, Mesdames P. Frampton, B. W. Hewat and E. K. Mills, Misses J. Gasparich, D. Thomson and D. Swift; duet, Misses Joy Lee and Ruth Wesney; recitations, Miss Nancy Prichard. The accompanist was Mrs A. E. H. Bath.
