BOTTLE DRIVE BY CHILDREN

Schools Aid Patriotic Funds A bottle drive by city school children in aid of soliders’ parcels was launched recently by the Headmasters’ Association and collections have been made in the north end of the town. Similar action will be taken in the south end of Invercargill next week. A collection of bottles valued at £lOO is aimed at. Already more than £4O .worth have been obtained. The purchaser of the bottles has made an advance payment of £75 so that it might be paid into the patriotic fund before the end of the financial year. The school children have tackled the collection of bottles with enthusiasm, and large numbers have been brought to the schools in' trollies and wheelbarrows. ’ The president of the association (Mr A. Thomson) stated yesterday that almost £4OO had been raised for patriotic funds in bottle drives by city school children since the war began. A drive in 1940 produced £l7O/5/5 and one last year brought in £146/6/3. The cheque recently paid in raised the total to within a few pounds of £4OO, and it was hoped that amount would be passed during the present drive.
