TYRES STOLEN AT GORE
Link With Invercargill Thefts Thieves broke into two garages at Gore some time on Tuesday night or early yesterday morning and stole a number of tyres. The method used in gaining entry to the two buildings was similar to that employed by the thieves who stole petrol and cigarettes in a series of thefts at Invercargill at the week-end, and it is considered that there is a definite link between the two sets of crimes. The buildings broken into at Gore were F. J. Townsend’s Motor and Transport Depot, Richmond street, and A. Russell and Company’s garage, Mersey street. Entry to Townsend’s Depot was gained by cutting through a lock on one of the main doors; Four large tyres. were removed? The tyres, which were off a heavy duty truck, are each valued at several pounds. The lock on the storeroom door of Russell and Company’s garage was also cut through, but so far as is known nothing is missing. Two men were arrested at Tapanui yesterday afternoon and it was first thought that they were connected with the burglaries. It was stated last night, however, that there was no connection between the arrests and the thefts. It is understood that they will face charges of vagrancy under the Emergency Regulations.
