FIRE BRIGADE RECEIVES THREE CALLS

The City Fire Brigade received three calls yesterday. The first was to a chimney fire at 10.45 a.m. at the residence of Mr T. C. Smiley, 49 Venus street. The fire was extinguished by means of a bucket pump before any damage was done. A call was received at 4.43 p.m. to a fire in a macrocarpa hedge surrounding a vacant house at 123 O’Hara street. Twenty feet of the hedge was destroyed before the fire was extinguished. Children playing with matches are believed to have caused the fire. The brigade was called at 10 p.m. to a chimney fire at the residence of Mr Andrew Sharp, 53 Gala street. The fire was extinguished by means of a bucket pump before any damage was done.
