HEALTH STAMPS—The Southland County Council yesterday decided to purchase £5 worth of health stamps in support of the maintenance of the health camps in Otago and Southland. DONATION OF £s.—The Southland County Council at its meeting yesterday donated £5 to the Wallacetown Cemetery Trust to assist the maintenance of the cemetery.
APPEAL ALLOWED—The appeal of E. H. Melvin, a married man, of Invercargill, against the direction of the district manpower officer that he should accept employment with S. Collett, sawmiller, Morton Mains, has peen allowed by the Industrial Man-Power “Committee. NATIONAL SAVINGS.—Up to yesterday a sum of £l2OO had been received at Invercargill towards the city’s weekly quota of £2043, thus leaving more than £BOO to be collected to ensure the posting of the V flag at midday today. The city has reached its quota for 44 weeks in succession. ASSISTANCE APPRECIATED—‘ The assistance given by your council Is more than appreciated in Christchurch," stated the secretary of the Union Jack Club, Christchurch, in a letter thanking the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council for a gift of 10 sacks of swedes for the club. The turnips were collected by the Brydone Home Guard.
