EXPLOSION IN ARSENAL

(Rec. 7 p.m.) JOLIET (Illinois), June 6. An explosion at Elwood Arsenal, probably the largest in the world, covering 23 square miles, caused 40 casualties and shattered windows in the city of Kankakee 22 miles away. The blast occurred at the shipping building at the end of a mile-long shell loading line. The arsenal employs 8000 and produces high explosives and aerial bombs.
