SIGN OF FAILURE

CZECH HOSTAGES TO BE RELEASED (8.0.W.) RUGBY, January 22. Czechoslovak circles in London state that the German Government has, decided to release hundreds, or even thousands, of Czechs taken to German concentration camps as hostages since 1939. They include 600 students arrested during the revolt in Prague two years agb. The total of Czech hostages is estimated at 627,000, but only a part are to be released. Among those to be kept are hundreds of communists, arrested at the outbreak of the war with Russia. Czechoslovaks in London interpret the move as a confession of failure. Not having succeded in breaking resistance by terrorism, and as the collaboration of the Czechs becomes increasingly important for the maintenance of the German war machine, the Governor, Heydrich is now endeavouring to achieve his object by humouring the Czechs.
