REHABILITATION OF SERVICEMEN
COUNCIL APPOINTED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 23. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, announced today the personnel of the Rehabilitation Council, which under the Act passed last session will make provision for re-establishment in civil life of those who have served in his. Majesty’s armed forces and also the reconstitution of war-time industries on a peace-time _ basis. Before constituting the council the Government invited nominations from associations representative of discharged servicemen and employers and employees in primary and secondary industries. The Act makes it clear, however, that no person shall be appointed to the council as a direct representative of any particular organization. The Hon. R. Semple has been appointed Minister of Rehabilitation and is therefore chairman of the council. The following have been appointed by the Governor-General as members: — Mr Michael Moohan, secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party, who has been appointed deputy chairman. Mr Thomas R. Lees, J.P., managing trustee of the New Zealand Sheep- ' owners’ Acknowledgement of Debt to British Seamen Fund. Mr E. L. Cullen, M.P. for Hawke’s Bay, who has been active in assisting the native ra"e in farming. Mr H. G. Dickie, M.P. for Patea, who has had long experience in local bodies. Mr Henry Tai Mitchell, C.M.G., consolidation officer, surveyor and welfare officer of the Native Department at Rotorua. Mr B. C. Ashwin, Secretary to the Treasury. Mr E. T. Tirikatene, M.P. for Southern Maori. Mr J. H. Boyes, Public Service Commissioner. Mr H. D. Acland, a well known Canterbury sheep farmer. Mr William Marshall, a farmer and former Mayor of Paeroa. Mr D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. The Hon. Richard Eddy, M.L.C., president of the New Zealand Workers’ Union. Mr Adam Black, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers. Mr C. W. Batten, a former president of the Soldiers’ Civil Re-establishment League. Mr W. R. Clarke, a member of the National Council of the R.S.A. Mr W. E. Leadley, Dominion organizer of the Soldiers’ Rehabilitation League. Mr H. McCormick, barrister chairman of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. Mrs Sadie Macdonald, 0.8. E., a prominent social worker in Dunedin. Mr S. W. Gaspar, of Dunedin, president . of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants.
