The following casualty. list of members of the N.Z.E.F. was issued tonight (the rank is private unless otherwise indicated): — PREVIOUSLY REPORTED MISSING, NOW REPORTED PRISONER OF WAR AYR, Adam Dickson; wife, Mrs E. M. H. Ayr, Wellington. CATTERMOLE, Driver Stanley Edward; brother, Mr C. W. Cattermole, Christchurch. DEWAR, Donald Fyfe; wife, Mrs F. ■J. Dewar, Waverley. HILL, Harry Floyd; wife, Mrs M. S. Hill. Masterton. IMS, Lance-Corporal Lewis Albert; mother, Mrs S. L. Parker, Wellington. McGAVIN, Gunner Thomas Edward Keith; mother, Mrs E. C. McGavin, Wellington. McLEAN, David; mother, Mrs R. PREVIOUSLY REPORTED MISSING BELIEVED PRISONER OF WAR, NOW REPORTED PRISONER OF WAR RUSSELL, Temporary Staff-Sergeant Jack; mother, Mrs M. K. Russell, Auckland. SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS MISSING Advice has been received by Mrs A. A. Searle, Otautau, that her son, Private E. Searle, has been reported missing and is believed to be a prisoner of war. Private Searle was born at Otautau and was educated at the Opio school. Before his enlistment he worked as a labourer in various parts of the Western District. Private Austin Daniel Dale, son of Mrs J. Dale, Eye street, has been reported missing, believed prisoner of war. He was born at Clifton 28 years ago and was educated at the Marist Brothers’ School, Invercargill. After he left school he was engaged as a painter and was still in the trade at the time of his enlistment. Private Dale, who went overseas with the Field Ambulance, was a keen sportsman. Private James William Gardyne, who has been reported missing, believed to be a prisoner of war, is the second son of Mr and Mrs R. H. Gardyne, Waikaka. He was educated at the Waikaka school and at the Gore High School. Before leaving for service overseas he was employed on his father’s farm.

Corporal. Roderick L. McDiarmid, who has been reported missing, believed prisoner of war, was bom at Gore 23 years ago and is the second son of Mrs J. M. McDiarmid, Makarewa. He was educated at the Makarewa school and Southland Boys’ High School. After leaving the High School he was employed for three years and a-half on the reporting staff of The Southland Daily News, and before enlisting he held a similar position with the Gisborne Publishing Company. Corporal McDiarmid was keenly interested in boxing, at which he had considerable success both in High School and open tournaments. He was also a member of the Southland Wrestling Club. Corporal McDiarmid took part in the campaigns in Greece, Crete and Libya. Private Robert Russell, a son of Mr R. Russell, Waikiwi, has been reported missing, believed prisoner of war. Private Russell, who was 25 years of age, was born at Waikiwi and was educated at the Waikiwi school and the Southland Technical College. At the time of his enlistment he was employed by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Private Steven George Brown, reported missing, believed prisoner of war, is a son of Mr G. R. Brown, 70 Maitland street. Born in Invercargill, Private Brown was educated at the St. George and Southland Boys’ High Schools. On leaving school he entered the employ of the Southland County Council, for which he worked for five years. He then took a position with the Clutha County Council and was in Balclutha at the time of his enlistment He went overseas early last year and was attached to the Ambulance Headquarters Unit. Private Brown is 25 years of age.

Private H. Wilson, jeported to be safe, is the husband of Mrs G. S. Wilson. He was employed by W. Todd and Co., auctioneers. Mrs A. B. Crozier has received private advice that her two sons, Sapper Basil Hansen and Private Ted Hansen, are safe and well.

Advice has been received that Driver K. McStay and Driver E. B. McStay, sons of Mr S. McStay, Dacre, are safe and well. Mrs L. Pennicott, Otapiri, and late of Ythan street, Invercargill, has received advice that her son, Driver Leslie James Pennicott, is safe and well.

AIR CASUALTIES

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 19. The following air casualties were announced today (all R.N.Z.A.F. and pilot officers except where otherwise stated): — AUSTEN, DESMOND THOMAS, missing on active service; father, Mr A. J. Austen, Hastings. O’CONNELL, SERGEANT CARROLL FREDERICK, killed in action; father, Mr C. U. O’Connell, Tolaga Bay. LINDSAY, ROYAL GEORGE, missing on air operations; father, Mr S. G. Lindsay, Auckland. STURT, SERGEANT HENRY TWITE, missing on air operations; wife, Mrs H. T. Sturt, England. DADELSZEN, MICHAEL VON, killed in action; father, Mr H. R. Von Dadelszen, Havelock North. WOODROW, HENRY JOSEPH, missing on air operations; father, Mr H. Woodrow, Auckland. ORCHARD, FLIGHT-LIEUTENANT RUSSELL ERNEST, Royal Air Force, previously reported missing believed killed, death now officially presumed to have occurred in September; father, Mr H. M. Orchard. Christchurch. REDSTONE, GILBERT PETER LEWIS, previously reported missing believed killed, death now officially presumed to have occurred in April; mother, Mrs M. A. Redstone, Gisborne.

Sergeant Noel Bain Rankin, R.N.Z.A.F., who has been reported missing on air operations, is the husband of Mrs J. IRankin, Dunedin, and a son of Mr and Mrs T. M. Rankin. 58 Yarrow street. He was educated at the Middle school and the Southland Boys’ High School. He was a keen Rugby player, but received a leg injury which prevented him from playing. He was connected with flying before the war started. Sergeant Rankin, who was on the Wellington staff of the Texas Oil Company before joining the R.N.Z.A.F., is 28 years of age.
