RADIO PROGRAMMES
May I take a little of your space to reply to “Listener” concerning the items which comprise the programmes of our local radio station. I have drawn the attention of a number of people to this letter and without one exception they whole-heartedly agree with “Listener.” The programmes submitted are becoming worse and worse and are definitely not worth 25/- a year. The greatest number of us are no longer children, but the National Broadcasting Service appears to think we are. “Curtain Up” is a shining example of this notion; they try to make believe that they are broadcasting from “somewhere in England.”
Childish “episodes,” too much propa--3 ganda, tinned American low-class trash, j. “hill-billy” music, and then half an t hour a week of Mr Frank Beadle’s contribution. The other night we got “Two Years of War” from 8 till 9, Daventry news from 9 to 9.30, and then r Frank Beadle from 9.30 till clos- ’ ing time. Perhaps someone could advance a , reason why we cannot reinstate the ’ talks, “In Nature’s Byways,” by the Rev. C. J. Tocker, and have a little more higher-class music, such as from the film “The Great Waltz,” and a little less Bing Crosby. In conclusion I should like to point out that I am not an oldi fashioned individual but a young man , not yet 30 years, and am sure “Lis- . tener” and myself express the opinion of the greatest number of radio listenerS‘ LISTENER NO, 2.
