INVASION OF ITALY PREDICTED

(Rec. 9.20 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 27. The New York Daily News publishes private reports that the British and Italian naval fights in the past week are preliminaries to a British invasion of Italy from North Africa. The reports add that Britain has secretly discussed the question with General Maxime Weygand, French Commander in North Africa, who promises support if the venture develops favourably. The British are not making a secret of their intentions, hoping their revelation will increase the disaffection in Italy.
