AFRICAN AGREEMENT URGED
LONDON, July 27. Pressure on the Vichy Cabinet for an agreement with Germany in Africa similar to that with Japan in IndoChina is growing. It is described by those who support it as a movement for “the defence of Africa” just as the Japanese agreement was made for “the defence of Indo-China.” The pro-German Paris newspapers . declare that only by this means can France retain her empire which at present she is losing “bit by bit.” The Sunday Times offers this comment on the Vichy-Berlin transactions: “Admiral Darlan has drawn the wages of sin only to find that they are in blocked marks.”
