Sir Andrew Russell’s Decision (Special) WELLINGTON, July 28. The resignation of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, K.C.8., K.C.M.G., froxn the post of Inspector-General of the New Zealand Military Forces was announced tonight by the acting P r ™ e Minister (the Hon. W. Nash). The Minister said Sir Andrew had reached his decision consequent upon the appointment of Lieutenant-General Sir Guy Williams, K.C.8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., as military adviser and also for health reasons. “On Major-General Russells retirement the Government wishes to express its gratitude for the sterling work accomplished by him during his term of office,” Mr Nash said. “His long experience and wise counsel have been ox the greatest assistance in formulating

the expansion and training of the military forces. The National Reserve and the Home Guard owe a great deal to his never-failing interest in those organizations. His own unflagging energy during his constant travelling throughout the Dominion has inspired confidence and enthusiasm in all those under training and the public generally. He has been in close, collaboration with Lieutenant-General Williams since his arrival in New Zealand and Lieutenant-General Williams has expressed his appreciation of the help afforded him by Major-General Russell, whose services will still be available as a member of the War Council to which the Government, with his consent, has reappointed him.”
