GALE IN TARANAKI

POWER LINES DAMAGED (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 28. Minox- property damage was done in North Taranaki and the coastal district from Opunake to Okato by a 60-mile an hour gale today. The electric power and telephone systems were affected when high voltage lines at Lepperton and Bellblock and telephone poles at Omata as well as private leads in many districts were brought down. Considerable damage was done to power lines in the Rahotu, Warea and Puniho coastal districts and power was cut off ovex’ a large area for most of the day. Several fairly large slips came down on roads east of Stratford as a result of incessant heavy rain, and roads in the Tututawa and Puniwhakau districts were blocked.
