RECOGNITION OF WAR SERVICE
BADGES TO BE ISSUED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 19. “Comprehensive regulations to control and protect badges which the Government may .authorize for war services have been Gazetted under the title of the War Services Badges Emergency Regulations 1941,” said the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) today. “Two badges have already been approved by the Government. The first of these is the invalided persons’ badge, which will be issued to personnel invalided through war service from the armed forces and Merchant Marine. The badge is similar in design to that adopted in the United Kingdom. It is circular in shape, bears the cypher of the Sovereign surrounded by the words ‘For Loyal Service’ and is of pattern easily distinguishable from that issued during the last war. The badge will be issued by the department concerned and applications should not be forwarded by individuals. “The second badge, which will be issued to men serving in the Merchant Navy bears the letters ‘M.N.’ surmounted by a naval crown. This will serve as recognition of the important part played by the men of the Merchant Navy in maintaining vital supplies. The badges are at present being manufactured. It will not be necessary for applications to be made by individuals, as the Marine Department is arranging for the issue of badges to all seamen.”
