OBITUARY

MR W. E. RITCHIE Mr William Elliot Ritchie, who was electrocuted at Riversdale on April 21 while operating an electric boring machine, was born at Lower Nevis in 1891. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs James Ritchie, now of Arrowtown. He was educated at the Lower Nevis and Bannockburn schools. On leaving school he was employed as a wagon driver, shepherd and a mailman in the Bannockburn district. He served in the Great War, and on his return worked in the Nevis district before entering the employment of Mr Peter Blyth, blacksmith, of Winton. He later started business on his own account as a blacksmith at Riversdale. Mr Ritchie took a keen interest in patriotic and welfare organizations in the district. He is survived by his wife. Mrs H. M. Scott and Mrs John Shaw, of Arrowtown, are sisters, and Messrs Archibald Ritchie and Robert Ritchie, of Arrowtown, are brothers.
