WOODLANDS

ARBOR DAY A pleasant function was held in the Woodlands school grounds to commemorate Arbor Day. Mr W. Bell, representing the school committee, presided in the absence of the chairman (Mr M. P. Schmidt). In his address he emphasized the importance of tree planting, and urged the children always to take good care of trees. Members of the Woodlands branch of the W.D.F.U. were present to celebrate the ninth birthday of the branch by planting an ornamental fir. Mrs J. Robbie (president)' spoke of the interest taken in trees planted by the children in their school days. Mr Bell thanked Mrs Robbie for the gift of the tree. ‘ Under the supervision of the head master (Mr C. J, Roseveare), the pupils then planted shrubs given by Mrs H. S. Anderson and Mr H. Waddell.
